LA COSTA CANYON MAVERICKS BASEBALL

A hallmark of the program is its home field, which is considered by players throughout San Diego County as second to none. Maintained meticulously by the coaching staff, the field reflects the dedication and pride of Head Coach Justin Machado. Known for its professional dimensions and challenging conditions for hitters, the LCC field has earned a reputation as one of the toughest parks in the county to hit a home run.

The coaching staff at LCC has been a stable and experienced presence, led by Coach Machado, who draws from a pool of former players and rivals who have competed at high levels. The program also boasts more paid coaches on staff than any other baseball program in the county, allowing for in-depth development and mentorship.

Beyond the field, LCC players share a strong bond, forged through annual events such as the intrasquad World Series, San Diego Padres games, the Home Run Derby, team dinners, and more. These traditions foster a culture of camaraderie and pride that extends well beyond the baseball diamond.

LCC’s success is also reflected in its alumni. Numerous players have gone on to earn athletic scholarships at various collegiate levels, and several have reached professional ranks. Notable alumni include:

• Phillip Evans – Drafted in the 15th round of the 2015 MLB Draft; made his MLB debut on September 9, 2017.

• Mickey Moniak – Selected as the #1 overall pick in the 2016 MLB Draft; debuted in the MLB on September 16, 2020.

• Spencer Jones – Chosen in the 1st round of the 2022 MLB Draft by the New York Yankees after a standout career at Vanderbilt University.

• Austin Machado – Signed as an undrafted free agent by the Atlanta Braves following the 2024 MLB Draft.
